Installing VPN client on Debian-based Linux

Follow the manual to install VPN-client which supports DeepWebVPN ECC to a Debian-based Linux.

Resolving dependencies

Update index of packages before resolving dependencies.
$ sudo apt-get update
Next, you should resolve all dependencies.
$ sudo apt-get install gcc "autoconf*" "libtool*" "snappy*" "openssl-dev*" "lzo*" "libreadline-gplv2*" git libpam0g-dev

OpenSSL installation

Determine current OpenSSL version.
$ sudo openssl version
OpenSSL 1.0.1f 6 Jan 2014
Download latest OpenSSL source from official site. Download, unpack the tarball and visit tarball’s directory.
$ wget https://www.openssl.org/source/openssl-1.0.1p.tar.gz
$ tar -xvzf openssl-1.0.1p.tar.gz
$ cd openssl-1.0.1p
Do the following in the tarball’s directory.
$ ./config --prefix=/usr --openssldir=/usr/ssl
$ make
$ make test
$ sudo make install
$ ./config shared --prefix=/usr --openssldir=/usr/ssl
$ make clean
$ make
$ sudo make install
Version of OpenSSL should change.
$ sudo openssl version
OpenSSL 1.0.1p 9 Jul 2015

OpenVPN-client installation

If client was installed earlier determine the current client’s version by command openvpn --version. Next, download and visit client source directory.
$ git clone https://github.com/OpenVPN/openvpn.git
$ cd openvpn
Compile OpenVPN-client.
$ autoreconf -i -v -f
$ ./configure
$ make
$ sudo make install
Make sure that the client is updated/installed.
$ sudo openvpn --version
OpenVPN 2.3_git [git:master/7546cba4761b24f2] i686-pc-linux-gnu [SSL (OpenSSL)] [LZO] [LZ4] [EPOLL] [MH] [IPv6] built on Nov 18 2015
